Carhart, Lizzie D.

Lizzie D. Carhart was the Prohibition Party candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction in Iowa in 1895.  She did not win the race.  Carhart served as president of the Iowa Woman's Christian Temperance Union and was an early support of women's right to vote.  In the early years of the twentieth century Carhart was also involved in a state home for orphaned children.
