Martha Bushnell Conine was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives, in 1896. She represented Arapahoe County and served from 1897-1898. Conine had been a prominent leader in the women's clubs of Denver before her election. She was also a suffrage activist. In the state legislature Conine worked on a number of issues including the establishment of assistance for young women who had been in the juvenile justice system. She was born in NY in 1845. She married John M. Conine with whom she had two children. In the 1910 U.S. Census she lists her occupation as "lecturer".
