Maude Brown was elected County Superintendent of Instruction for Park County, Montana in 1910. She won by a majority of 400 votes and against another woman candidate. Brown served at least through 1917. After her election Brown wrote to a friend about her experience during the campaign: "I can never forget how good the people have been to me. People who I considered only speaking acquaintances got out and spent money and time in working for me."
