Nellie M. Chope
Nellie M. Chope was elected County Superintendent of Schools in Monterey County, California in 1898. She ran successfully for re-election in 1902. Before her election Chope was a teacher in Alameda and Santa Clara counties, and then served as principal of the King City High School. Chope was also the vice president of the California Teachers Association and known for lecturing on pedagogical topics.
