Isabella Laning Candee campaigned for University Trustee in Illinois in 1894. Born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, Candee migrated to Illinois in 1855. Candee studied at Rockford College and later taught in the LaSalle Public Schools. She was highly active in various women's and philanthropic organizations, including the Cairo Woman's Club and the Cairo Public Library. Candee also served on the Board of Managers of the Chicago World's Fair and the Diocesan Branch of the Woman's Auxiliary to the Board of Missions of the Episcopal Church.
