Louise de Koven Bowen ran as an Independent candidate for Alderman of the Twenty-First Ward in Chicago in 1914. Bowen was one of several women candidates in the races for municipal offices that year. This was the first year women could run for these offices in Illinois. Bowen was a reformer and philanthropist, active in suffrage politics, urban reformer and the juvenile court system. She was a major financial supporter of Hull House in Chicago.
