Esther F. Boland was nominated to campaign for the school board in Boston, Massachusetts in 1893. The wife of a physician, she was actively involved in the community of medical professionals in New England and was a staunch supporter of education reform within the Women's Suffrage Movement, speaking on behalf of the issue at the 32nd Annual Convention of National American Woman Suffrage Association.
