Ethel Whitehead ran in the August 1916 primary as well as the general election, as a Socialist party candidate for lieutenant-governor of Kansas. She did not win. Whitehead was active in the party attending, for example, the 1912 Convention of the Socialist Party of America as a delegate from California.
