Sibbitt ran in the August 1916 primary as well as the general election, for the office of Kansas Secretary of State. She was a Quaker referred to as "Reverend," and a temperance activist often called "the Kansas Cyclone." Sibbitt ran successfully in the primary but lost in the general election.
