Luella Twining was a Socialist Party activist and candidate State Superintendent of Public Instruction in Colorado in 1904. Two years later Twining ran for U.S. Congress from Colorado, as a Socialist. She received almost 5,000 votes, but lost the race. In 1908 Twining ran for State Superintendent of Public Instruction on the Socialist ticket. Twining later moved to California where she again ran for office under the Socialist ticket.
