In 1916 Ella Baldwin campaigned as the Socialist party candidate for the State House of Representatives in Kansas. Two years later, having remarried Ella Baldwin Stokes ran as a Socialist candidate for Kansas Superintendent of Public Instruction. In a crowded field of contenders, she lost to Republican Lizzie E. Wooster. In the 1910 federal census Ella Baldwin listed the industry in which she worked as occult services.
