From collection Candidates
Mary McVicker ran for the New York State Assembly as the Socialist candidate from the 22nd District of New York County in 1918. The New York Tribune published a short biographical sketch of her on October 19, 1919. This sketch revealed that, prior to running for the office, McVicker had served as a Quaker minister for several years. In addition, she was "conservative" on her views of Bolshevism. The New York Tribune concluded by writing that, McVicker's campaign was "part of a campaign of education."
