Ellen B. McDonald was elected County Superintendent of Schools for Oconto County, Wisconsin. She served in the office from 1911 until at least 1920. McDonald later served in non elected state education positions. Writer and liberal icon Scott Nearing included mention of McDonald and her progressive teaching methods in his work on "New Education" in the first decades of the twentieth century.
