Inez Johnson Lewis (aka Florence Inez Johnson Lewis) was elected the County Superintendent of Schools for El Paso County, Colorado in 1908. She served in that position for two terms. In 1914 Lewis was elected again and served for another four terms, seven terms in all. In 1928 she campaigned in the primaries as a Democratic nominee for the office of State Superintendent of Public Instruction, but lost. Two years later Lewis ran again and was elected. She served in the state office until 1946.
