Northrup ran a successful campaign to be a Delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1920. Northrup was involved in women's organizations. She was the chair of an organization trying to change the high cost of living, and was active in education issues. In 1927, she served as the president of the Motion Picture Censor Board in Oregon. Northrup had the first name "Ethel," but is listed as "Mrs. F.O. Northrup" in the linked resources relating to her candidacy.
