In 1894 Winona Taylor campaigned on the Populist Party ticket for the state legislature. Although women had voted in Wyoming since 1869, she was the first woman legislative candidate. Taylor did not win but in 1910 Mary G. Bellamy of Laramie was elected Wyoming's first woman legislator.
