Mary E. Sawyer, the Citizens party candidate, was elected City Treasurer of Montrose, Montrose County, Colorado in 1913. There were confused reports in Colorado newspapers that Sawyer was the Mary in the famous poem and nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb".
