In 1914 Mame J. White was a Republican candidate for County Superintendent of Schools for Box Butte County, Nebraska. White won the Republican primary election but lost to Democrat Opal Russell in the general election.

In 1914 Opal Russell, a Democrat, was elected as County Superintendent of Schools for Box Butte County, Nebraska. She re-election in 1918 as well.  Russell was a teacher in the area.
