In 1902 Daisy Barbee ran for the office of Probate Judge in Missouri as reported by the December 2, 1902 St Louis Poost-Dispatch. She was quoted in that newspaper as saying that Missouri was the "best state for women." She was referring to the fact that, although Missouri women were not allowed to vote, they were permitted to run for some elective offices. Barbee had moved from Kansas to Missouri in order to attend law school at Washington University.
