L. Meredith Stansbury was nominated in 1894 for state assembly from Arapahoe County, Colorado. In that year she was the best known of the assembly candidates. The Woman's Journal described her as the "Ellis Meredith" of the Denver News. ("On the Eve of the Election," November 10, 1894). She was active in the woman suffrage movement and had testified before the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives on the question of women's rights.
