Mary B. Haight
Mary B. Haight was a community activist in Bellingham, Washington. On September 12, 1918 she sought the office of County Clerk for Whatcom County in the Republican primary. Haight was opposed by George Cook. The local newspaper, The Lynden Tribune, observed that the turnout was extremely light in the main city of Bellingham "with only a fraction of voters balloting." Haight and Cook each received fifty-eight votes. Cook, perhaps by a coin toss, went forward to the general election.
