Marion E. Sproule of Lowell, was the Socialist Party candidate for Secretary of State, for Massachusetts in 1917. Sproule did not win the race, but came in third out of a field of five candidates. Sproule was the Massachusetts State Secretary for the local Communist Party. She may have used the pseudonym Alice Smith.
