From collection Candidates
In 1902 Dr. Mary Wenzel was nominated as a candidate for School Director of the thirteenth ward School Committee in Philadelphia. She had been considered as a candidate by the Civic Club, a women's organization, in 1900. Wenzel, one of the first women doctors in the city, had worked at the Philadelphia Dispensary, a hospital set up to care for the city's poorer residents. By 1918 she was the physician in charge at the Bamberger Home for Convalescent Children in Longport, New Jersey.
