Richards, Dr. Emma E.
Dr. Emma E. Richards, a Republican, was elected to the School Committee of the third ward of Norristown, Pennsylvania in 1895. She was the first woman in the town to be elected. Three years later the Republican party refused to re-nominate Richards as their candidate, and she was nominated by the Democrats instead. Richards had graduated from the Women's Medical College in 1886.
