From collection Candidates
In 1896 Rachel A. Dickey was a Prohibition party candidate for School Director of the eighteenth ward school committee in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While Dickey received more votes than the other Prohibition candidates in the race, she did not win a seat on the school committee. She ran again for the same office in 1898. Dickey was a physician who had graduated from the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1867. Along with other supporters in the city, Dickey signed a petition for woman suffrage in 1878. For many years she was a member of the Universal Peace Union.
