In 1897 Amelia S. Quinton was a Prohibition party candidate for School Director on the ninth ward school committee in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She received only sixteen votes. Quinton was the president of the Women's National Indian Association, an organization of white people dedicated to improving the legal and social rights of native Americans.
