Elizabeth Duane Gillespie
In 1891 Elizabeth Duane Gillespie was a candidate for School Director of the eighth ward school committee in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She did not win. Gillespie was one of the women who organized a Philadelphia hospital for wounded soldiers during the Civil War. In the 1870s she helped raise funds for the Women's Building at the celebration in the city of the Centennial in 1876. Gillespie was a great granddaughter of Benjamin Franklin.
