Mary R. Harris was the Democratic candidate for School Director in Bellefonte, a borough in Centre County, Pennsylvania in 1882. The borough usually voted Republican and while Harris did well, she lost to the Republican candidate, her husband. John P. Harris. Mary Harris later served as the president of the Bellefonte Woman's Christian Temperance Union.
