Peebles, Elizabeth S.

Elizabeth S. Peebles, the Republican candidate, was elected County Superintendent of Schools in Fergus County, Montana in 1898. She was re-elected two years later for a second term. In her 1898 campaign her male opponent refused to run against a woman, but still campaigned. Peebles won with a vast majority of the votes.
