Lois J. Shepherd, a Republican, was elected County Superintendent of Schools in Pueblo County, Colorado in 1897. She ran for an additional term in 1899, also on the Republican ticket. Shepherd ran for a third term in 1901, but lost in the primary to another Republican candidate Lulu J. White.
