Elizabeth DeGroot was a Washington Party (Republican Bull Moose) candidate for School Director in LeHigh County, Pennsylvania in 1915. She was the first woman elected to the office in the county. DeGroot won her seat by a substantial margin of the votes cast. By 1921 DeGroot was one of the trustees of the county board of Mothers Pension office.
