Edith Anna Ellis was a Democratic candidate for County Clerk of Tompkins County, New York in 1918. She did not win the race, but remained active in Democratic party politics for the rest of her life. During her campaign Ellis ran on the slogan "Insist that no man shall occupy a position that a woman can fill". She was active in suffrage, women's clubs, and wrote for magazines and newspapers. Ellis was a graduate of Cornell University, class of 1903.
