Verna Wells, a Republican, was elected as County Superintendent of Schools for Fremont County, Wyoming in 1914. She was elected to a second term two years later. In 1918 when the office of County Superintendent became non-partisan Wells was elected to a third term. She ran unopposed in the primary and general elections. Wells had also acted as a land agent for Belva Lockwood when she wished to purchase newly available lands in the state.
