Ellen Gilliam, a Republican, was elected as County Superintendent of Schools for Walla Walla County, Washington, in 1886. She served for one term. Before her election Gilliam was a faculty member at Whitman College. In 1898 her sister Mary Gilliam was the Democratic candidate for the same office.
