Elizabeth C. Gear was the Democratic candidate for County Superintendent of Schools for Pierce County, Washingtion in 1894. She lost to the Republican incumbent. Gear was also a school teacher in the county. In 1899 she was part of court cases concerning how her teaching certificates had been awarded.
