Lizzie M. Ordway, a Democrat, was elected as County Superintendent of Schools for Kitsap County, Washington in 1880. She ran unopposed for re-election two years later, endorsed by both the Democrats and Republicans. In 1884 Ordway ran for a third term, but was defeated by Lillie C. Meigs, the Republican candidate. Ordway ran once more in 1886, endorsed by the Democrats and won election for a third term in office. Before her election Ordway was a well regarded teacher in the county. Lizzie, or Elizabeth, Ordway was one of the early suffrage activists in the territory, and appeared on stage with Susan B. Anthony on her tour of the area .
