Anna S. Shuart was appointed as County Superintendent of Schools for Yellowstone County, Montana in 1885. She was appointed to the position after her husband (previously serving as Superintendent), failed to qualify as a candidate. The following year Anna Shuart ran for the office as an Independent candidate, but only received twenty percent of the votes cast.
