Sarah S. Jacobs was elected to the School Board in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and served from 1880 to 1887. Jacobs and Phebe M. Kendall were the first two women elected to the Cambridge school board. Jacobs continued to be active in town affairs well into her 80s.
