Bessie Ford was appointed as the first County Superintendent of Schools for Cascade County, Montana in the year it was created, 1887. The following year Ford was the Republican candidate for the office and won against two other candidates. Ford had already been elected as County Superintendent in Meagher County in 1886, but resigned from that position to move to Cascade County.
