Lucy I. Harrington, the Citizens party candidate was elected City Recorder for Denver, Colorado in 1912. The following year she was one of many candidates for Commissioner of Social Welfare in Denver, Colorado in 1913. She served as the stenographer for the state board of charities. She was supported in the job by leading women of Denver. Harrington was a leading figure in women's issues in the city and wrote letters to newspapers. By 1912 she was county chair of the local Citizens party, and led other women party activists to call for more female candidates in the city. Harrington was nominated for City Recorder that year. During that campaign a reporter wrote that Harrington for many years had been "identified with all the Important reform movements and indeed she is a woman who understands politics, social and civic needs in a most scholarly and practical manner." Harrington won that race. She later served as Deputy County Clerk and Recorder. Harrington remained active in Denver politics and women's rights issues for many years.
