Mrs.: Mrs. Mary E. Nash
In a June 7, 1881 letter to the Des Moines, Iowa Register, Mrs. Mary E. Nash wrote that she had been nominated by the Greenback party for the office of State Superintendent of Schools without her knowledge or consent. She "declined the honor intended, and said that her political flag, if it were to float at all, would be found in another camp. She would not desert her colors for office."
