Maude Kimbell was elected as Clerk of the District Court for Jackson County, Oklahoma in 1912. Although she received the most votes, an opponent challenged the win based on Kimbell's gender. Kimbell won in the District Court and in a later case in the state supreme court. By 1917 Kimbell was listed as the County Clerk in Jackson.
