Anna Barrows was a Republican candidate for the Boston School Committee in 1900. She was also endorsed by the Public School Association and the Independent Women Voters group. Barrows was the only woman in the race to be endorsed by the IWV, and won a seat on the School Committee, Barrows was well known in the city for her courses and educational work on home economics and cooking courses. She had been trained at the Boston Cooking School in the 1880s. Barrows wrote several books on cooking and home economics.
