Belle Lindsay was elected as the County Recorder for Santa Cruz County, California in 1914. She was the first woman in the county elected to the office. Lindsay was elected to at least two additional terms. She had been the first woman to enroll and graduate from the Chesterwoods Business College, also in Santa Cruz. After graduation Lindsay found clerical jobs in county government.
