Mattie Lund was first elected as the Tax Collector of Butte County, California in 1914 at the age of 24. Lund had attended business school after her high school graduation, and then worked as a bookkeeper before her election. Lund was elected for an additional term in 1918, combining the office of County Treasurer and Tax Collector. She was elected to office eleven times and officially retired in 1961. Besides serving in elected office Lund also was an officer of California state organizations for county tax collectors and treasurers. Her work and long service were recognized by national and state organizations.
