Nellie E. Carpenter was elected as a School Director for the town of Roxbury, Washington County, Vermont in 1907. In 1903 Nellie Carpenter joined with over seventy other residents of Roxbury and signed a petition allowing women to vote on prohibition laws in the state. The petition was presented to the state senate, along with similar petitions from two other towns.
