From collection Candidates
Mary C. Flaridon was the Democratic party candidate for County Superintendent of Schools in Placer County, California in 1906. The Placer Herald which reported on Flaridon's candidacy noted that there were twenty-two other women in the office across the state. The writer acknowledged that there was still "petty prejudice" against women in the office, but that they were "just as competent, often more so, than men who aspire to this office." Flaridon was a teacher in the public schools of the county.
