Kathryn Johnston was elected County Superintendent of Schools for Lewis and Clark County, Montana in 1896. In that race Johnston was the candidate for both the Democrat and People's Parties. Two years later she won a second term as the Democrat, Silver Republican, and Populist parties candidate.
