Dr. Myra Knox was elected to the School Board of Oakland, California in 1895. In that election she was nominated by the Non-Partisans. In the next election she was nominated by the Republican Party for School Director at Large for the same school board. Knox had served as the president of the Board of Education. She was an acquaintance of Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and hosted several club meetings where Gilman read papers. Knox later served as the physician for the state Industrial Home for the Adult Blind.
