Ella Barmore was elected Clerk of her local School Board in Fredonia, New York in 1893. The Fredonia Political Equality Club assisted in Barmore's election, and that of another woman running for a seat on the School Board that year. Over half of the voters in the school elections were female, and newspapers reported that insured the women won their races.
